Hi darling hivers

The question of the week for the #laidiesofhive community weekly contest #75- I absolutely love love it,

question two

What are your thoughts of a "house husband?"
Would you be okay with a relationship where roles were reversed?

As a diplomat I am going to try my best to sandwich this question, I am going to be reasoning from the angle of a 21st century woman in a fast changing modern world and also as a born and bread African woman and finally what Gods word says.

I remember when I was in primary school they would teach us roles of the people in the family

Father : provides for the home
Mother : takes care of the home
Children: obey their parents in the home

In our fast developing world today, everything is changing by the nano seconds, new ideologies, new perspectives, everyone wants to do or support what is ‘woke’, well that’s very okay, as change is the only thing constant in life.

The idea of being a house husband in our World today isn’t as bad as it would have sounded years ago when men were the supreme head and leaders and bread winners of their homes. Now, with the rise of women showing that we are more than capable of wearing the shoes and filling the gap, the idea of a house husband doesn’t sound so demeaning. The idea that raising and nurturing children is solely the job of mothers was sooner or later going to change . And this new generation is definitely changing the narratives.

Washing, cooking, caring for the kids and home should never have to be the full time work for one spouse, relationship is give and take and two people working together.
In the case where the woman is the one going out to fend for the family, the husband can definitely fill in the shoes of being a house husband wether temporarily or permanently depends on what both partners have agreed. Now we get that getting and keeping a job can be difficult, so in a situation where the woman’s job is the only constant and substantial means of livelihood in the family, it’s okay for the man to take a step back and to care for the home if he so wishes and without grudge or animosity.

this is definitely the a modern ideology and I am fighting so hard myself to accept the things I am writing right now

I am African, and a NIGERIAN woman for that matter, where I come from, a man has to be a man, a man has to protect, provide, and defend his home, it is the knowledge of how things are meant to be that I grew up to meet and know and that is also at play in my own home currently.
Although I am not a house wife, I work and I earn, still my partner hardly lets me use my money for running the home, he makes sure to pay all the bills and running the home finances comes from his pockets.
It was only recently I had to make a plea to at least be paying the light charges and he reluctantly agreed.

I personally do not subscribe to a house husband o, I won’t be comfortable with the idea of me working and my partner siting at home doing the chores and taking care of the kids and home,
(he will not even do some things to my taste and that would cause a bit of friction between us , if you know what I mean)

I personally consider it lazy and very low enthusiasm and drive for a man to sit without putting in all effort to make a living for himself and family. I mean, you as a man prefer to sit home and be a house husband rather than go out there and strive to be better for your family?.

I also definitely wouldn’t want my male children to think it’s okay to have such low expectations of themselves. As much as a woman Can work now adays, a man should and must do what ever it take to work, and provide for himself then his family.
Call it a backward thinking or archaic but I believe there is a scheme of things in life and everyone had a role to play on their family and society in general.

In the world today, women are expected to even bring in income as well as take care of the home. You find out that men want working women and yet women who would also cook and clean and take care of them and the kids

So if I were to give a pass to a house husband situation, as a house husband you would also have to find a means to earn while you stay home. There are now various means to earn online while working from home, the idea of living the financial situation of the home for the woman while you take care of the home isn’t permitted anymore, the standard society sets now for women should also apply to men who want to be house husbands

Biblically it is not permitted for a man to be a house husband anyway.

1 Timothy 5:8 states that
A man who doesn’t work to provide for his household, has denied himself the true faith and is worse than an infidel

As a Christian and an African woman I am definitely and personally not in support of a house husband, not because it is right for a man to be the sole provider of his home and a woman a house wife, but because as a man you should have drive and goals and should be willing to work hard at achieving those goals no matter what.

What are your thoughts?
