MY Dearest Mother
I am always too emotional when ever I have to write or discuss about my mom. She is one part of my life that I hold very dearly.
Yes I equally love my dad as well, being a last child I am both a daddy’s girl and a mummy’s baby. But you see my mother?
I would be lost without her
I remember growing up, we weren’t always too comfortable at first, but we had everything we would ever want or need, maybe not luxury things or too much of anything but we had decent clothes to wear, roof over our head, 3 meals a day and we got good quality education.
My dad is an engineer and a contractor for one of the most popular oil sectors in Nigeria, what this means was that there are times contract he bids for don’t get chosen(that was then tho when he did not have the right connections Lol), this consequently meant that for months and months no pay from his end and so no money from his end either. Till he gets another contract and more money rolls in.
As kids we watched my mummy carry most of the financial burdens of the family. There are times we would get our fees paid and she would ask us to go and greet our daddy, deep down as kids we already know she was the one that paid but she would never for once make it seem like it was her effort alone. She was an asset to my dad for sure.
SHE IS A TRUE HUSTLER
There is no line of Buisness my mummy hasn’t traded, although she is a retired teacher, I remember when we had a sachet water factory in the market and she would produce those clear transparent cellophane waters and my sisters would carry them to distribute to the person that bought them in bulk.
She sold laces, gold , second hand bags, braziers, shoes, and clothes. I also remember us having a chicken poultry, you see my mummy here converted our garage into a poultry and from there we got big eggs, in no time we started selling crates of eggs and was know as the biggest eggs sellers in the area we lived. She also made a small snail farm, that was the very first time I got to know that snails can be reared o, I saw it first hand and I would even go there to clean up the shed and put fresh leafs for the snails. She was also a supplier of the freshest zobo to most of the primary schools along Ihama road(where we lived).
That woman is a true hustler.
When you say someone is a serial entrepreneur there are levels to it, my mum is a go-getter, ambitious, tenacious, and dogged. I learnt for the very first hand what having multiple streams of income meant from my mummy, she would do just about anything in her capacity that would fetch the extra bucks.
SHE IS OUR PRAYER HOUSE
She is and was our spiritual pillar. Even till today I still have the confidence that my Mum is somewhere praying for me and she never fails to tell you that ‘you know you are always in my prayers my baby’
There was this particular thing she did that I loved and I decided to adopt and practice too, when and wherever my mum is sleeping, from time to time you would see her raise her hands in worship to her maker, she would let her low sounds of prayers or even speak in tongues and it just amazed me how someone can pray even while sleeping. I practiced it on my own and wanted to also do it so bad eventually I got the drill.
Even with everyone married and in thier houses, my mummy still remains a huge influence in our lives, whenever there is trouble or issues you definitely know my Mummy is calling you to pray right in the middle of that issue if you like be shouting on top of your voice before you pick her call as soon as you pick she is blasting prayers and asking you to stop shouting and start praying.
My mummy is the best cook I know, she never seemed to run out of delicacy, she never repeats a meal twice in a week, she comes up with new and variety of meals to Cook, I got my love for cooking from my mummy, she doesn’t mind cooking the food as long as you don’t mind eating as much as she cooks (Lol). She is the true definition of hospitable.
My mum would never allow us serve my dad, till today in old age, she still reverence him to that point, we only get to serve him if she isn’t home, once she is at home, she gets up to dish and serve my daddy’s food herself and it just amazes us
Then we would make jokes and tell her that it is only her husband she cares about, we her children she no rate us Lol
I could go on and on and on if you leave me.
My mom is a book to be read, so many character and attributes she has that I learnt knowingly and unknowingly from her.
Her way of doing things and living life, her principles to life and how she view things, the fear of bringing my mum shame and dishonoring her hard work to see is excel in life, shaped me.
I catch myself thinking
what will mummy say If she hears I did this’
Will mummy be happy about this action I want to take?
This thing I want to do my mummy won’t like it o
That is how much of a role model she is to me. Even in my husbands house I find myself doing things like my mother, my attitude my actions and inactions, even my the way I treat my husband, I just see huge traces of her influence over my life and my elder sisters too testify to also catching themselves acting like my mother in their homes too.
As for Buisness mindset, I am her carbon copy, I am the only other buisness guru in the house aside my mother, every trace of Buisness and hustler spirit in my body is from my mummy. I am grateful I got a mother I could learn good life long attributes from. she is leaving her prints in the sand of time that can never be erased, because my children will also learn these things from me and maybe someday consider me as the best mom too and in turn go and teach their own children, a long line of patricia’s multiplying from generation to generations.
I am grateful to God for my mom, she is special to me , she is my support system and one rock I know is solidly behind me in life, she still calls me everyday in my Husband house like she did when I was in the university, my mom will call you 5 times in one day Lol.
She is my superhero, and I never fail to spoil her and let her know how much she means to me.
The international women’s day is upon us, I dedicate it to my mummy who is my role model and superhero.
Happy international women’s day to all the women on hive reading this post.
