You know that our Gen Z slogan that says ‘adulthood is a scam?
Well to some extent I agree Because I mean,Who told the universe I wanted to be an adult? In short when did I state it that I wanted to ever grow up and be independent and have so much responsibility to deal with on a daily basis.? Please they should show me the where and when I signed up for adult package.
The summary of being an adult is ’Just trying to survive on a daily’ that should be the new definition. I take one look at my life and I just thank the Lord for his grace because if not His grace, not sure where I would be, or what I would be doing with my life right now.
THE LIFE OF A CHILD IS FREE OF WORRIES
This topic really gave me a chance to reminisce on my childhood, the free cooked meals, the clothes mummy buys that you don’t know where the money comes from, the once in a while treats, just generally being carefree. As a child they even beg you to sleep or force you if need be.
I remember how my niece and nephew always considered taking a nap a punishment, you can literally threatened them with ‘I will send you to sleep now’ and they would do what you want or even cry and beg.
In my mind I would just shake my head and say if only you guys knew that sleep is a luxury as an adult you would grab all the sleep you can right now.
I would think of what they would eat three meals ahead of time, all they need to do was just say ’Aunty Keyeye I am hungry’ and food will appear. How life of a child can be so Free of worries or challenges.
As a child, you can have the wildest dreams, aspirations and imaginations, everything is black and white and simple, you think to yourself that when you grow up you will be a doctor and in your mind as a child nothing can stop that, Well till you grow and realize that life isn’t that simple and people do not get what they want that easy all the time.
ADULTING CAN BE THOUGH THO
Adulthood doesn’t give you any prior notice, it just creeps up on you and before you know it you are now an adult and society is looking at you to deliver and succeed.
As an adult I have learnt that too much expectation is the mother of disappointment, and so I cut my expectations of anything or from anyone to the lowest level because adulthood will teach you that.
Adulthood will also open your eyes to the world, the good and bad and ugly,
When we were young my daddy will tell us,
out there in the world everybody wants what you have and will do anything to take what you have from you if you are not sharp eyed and wise.
(Nothing but the truth)
The responsibilities alone that comes with being an adult, first taking care of yourself and making life decisions for yourself, trying to be financially independent ,then when you eventually have a family, family responsibilities too.
At the end of the day we can all agree that we are not where we want to be yet in various aspects of our lives as adult, there are new goals to be met every day/month/year, new challenges to overcome, but we are definitely far far away from where we used to be, and where we are heading is definitely greater.
THE ONE THING OR MORE I LOVE ABOUT ADULTHOOD
one thing I really love about adulthood is getting to make my own family, the freedom that comes with actually being an adult, and living life on my terms.
No parents to control your affairs (we know our parents wants the best for us always but sometimes we may not agree with all their decisions for us)
I love having work hard on building my self and following through with my plans for my future and the pride that comes with every achievement I attain as an adult.
IF I COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT ADULTHOOD
But if I had the power to change one thing about being an adult it would be having all my childhood Privileges back but still maintaining my free right to live life on my terms. If you know what I mean :)
