En los últimos meses he estado muy dedicada a estudiar el estilo de anime retro, sobre todo con mucho hincapié en los anime de finales de los 70´s e inicio de los 80´s.
Esto es debido a que estoy aprendiendo animación por mi propia cuenta, así que dedico mucho tiempo a analizar y estudiar los frames para entender cómo resolvían los animadores algunos movimientos complejos o los efectos especiales que lograban en esa época donde la tecnología era muy limitada.
Ya que no tengo un equipo con capacidad de tener un programa al estilo de Blender para ayudarme con el proceso, he optado por estudiar los clásicos para aprender lo básico.
Esto me ha llevado a unirme a grupos de Facebook de anime old school y he conectado con mucha gente que es entusiasta del anime de la vieja escuela, lo cual es excelente porque siempre habrá alguien con quién intercambiar impresiones sobre este estilo de animación.
A finales de diciembre, un cliente me contactó pues deseaba que dibujara a uno de sus personajes originales, Sasha, en estilo anime old school.
Al inicio, el cliente quería que tuviera el estilo de un par de animadores en particular, Shingo Araki y Michi Himeno. A pesar que tengo influencia de ellos (entre sus diseños de personajes están La Rosa de Versailles, Saint Seiya, Grendizer, etc), realmente yo no copio exactamente el estilo de ningún artista.
Tomo de cada artista los elementos que me parecen interesantes o que me llaman la atención en su forma de resolver algún objeto o persona y lo integro a mi propio estilo, por lo que el resultado final es una amalgama de lo que voy aprendiendo e internalizando.
Así que le expliqué esto al cliente para que no tuviera la expectativa de que el resultado final sería una copia de sus artistas preferidos.
El cliente quedó satisfecho con el resultado: era un boceto a color del personaje en estilo anime old school.
Me alegró mucho que le gustara el resultado y me sentí contenta de haber puesto en práctica lo que he estado estudiando. A pesar de ser sólo un boceto, le puse cuidado al colorearlo con creyones para que tomara el aspecto del anime. Esta fue la ilustración final:

In the last few months, I have been very dedicated to studying retro anime style, especially focusing on anime from the late 70s and early 80s.
This is because I am learning animation on my own, so I spend a lot of time analyzing and studying frames to understand how animators solved complex movements or achieved special effects during a time when technology was very limited.
Since I don't have a computer capable of running software like Blender to help me with the process, I have chosen to study the classics to learn the basics.
This has led me to join Facebook groups of old school anime and connect with many people who are enthusiastic about old school anime, which is great because there will always be someone to exchange impressions about this style of animation.
At the end of December, a client contacted me because he wanted me to draw one of his original characters, Sasha, in the old school anime style.
Initially, the client wanted it to have the style of a couple of specific animators, Shingo Araki and Michi Himeno. Although I am influenced by them (they were character designers for works like "The Rose of Versailles," "Saint Seiya," "Grendizer," etc.), I don't exactly copy the style of any artist.
I take from each artist the elements that I find interesting or that catch my attention in their way of representing objects or people, and I integrate it into my own style, so the final result is a mixture of what I am learning and internalizing.
So I explained this to the client so that he wouldn't expect the final result to be an exact copy of their favorite artists. The client was satisfied with the result: it was a colored sketch of the character in the old school anime style.
I was very happy that he liked the result, and I felt happy to have put into practice what I have been studying. Despite being just a sketch, I took care to color it with crayons to give it the anime look. This was the final illustration:
