This was back in the date when i used to play around with overclocking it was like 12 years ago
the lesson of this story is never use a cheap PSU when overclocking:
here is what i started with
athlon 2600+ 333 FSB (non-barton)
Asus A7n8x deluxe
30 seagate ATA 133
120GB seagate SATA
Radeon 9500Pro
2 - 512mb DDR400 kingston Value ram
raidmax 350Watt PSU (came with the case)
i had succesfully overclocked it to
202 x 11.5 at 1.8v
or 2331 @ 405 FSB. (central brain Ident. readings)
air cooled at 46C at 100% CPU load
I had ran Prime95 with 200 x 11.5 at 1.775v for 12 hours, plus surfing the net and some other common tasks simultaneously with no problems as well as ran memtest86 with no problems.
so i pushed it a little higher. to 2331, 405 @1.8v
after about 4 hours of Prime95 Running, while i was across the room palying video games, i smelled somthing funny. . . that Ozone smell. . . never good. I ran over to the machine to shut down windows and I got into the bios and lowered the settings. upon rebooting that was all she wrote
after some stressing and a lot of part replacments i have determined that when my PSU burned up, it took my SATA drive and my Mobo with it.
i replaced the peices with the following:
Athlon 2800 Barton
Antec TruePower 430
Abit Nf7 series mobo
Luckily my Vid card, an cheap ram survived as well as my sound card, and tv tuner.
and the Athlon 2600 was fine as well. after that i dont think i will ever buy anything but AMD (not that i ever have)
