I loved every minute creating this drawing. My aim was to explore the qualities of line and texture through the use of graphite. I was living in Newport at the time and I found inspiration in textures of the wall that lead up to the house, the stray cats following me up to my house everyday and how I seemed to create a new nest each time I moved into a new property. So I called this piece "A life time spent creating new nests".
I had moved house or flat at least 10 times in 10 years, this time I had landed in Newport. Little did I know I would only live there for just over 5 months before moving another 4 times. The eggs in each nest represent the things I either kept with me as baggage. The nests that are bare represent having to lose some of the baggage whether that was emotional or physical. One thing that was constant was my love of cats. I also had Leon the Abyssinian who had clung to me through Uni, meeting the love of my life and several moves. The cat represents spontinaity as well as the stasis.
I took lots of photos throughout the process from start to finish as the drawing evolved.
The finished piece, day 30! Finally complete.
