Flowers Of The World

This time of year, on Prince Edward Island, the flowers are starting to slowly push their way out of the earth to be welcomed by the increasing warmth of the sun.

Rudbeckias are one of my favorite flowers. They are commonly called coneflowers or Black-eyed Susans. They give a lovely display of color.

The name coneflower comes from their raised dark center.

These are images I photographed in previous years.

Yellow coneflowers in my garden. They are a hardy perennial and blossom in late summer and stay until mid-October.

A hardy coneflower I saw growing in the sand by the beach in Souris among other wildflowers.

All that’s left on the coneflowers by end of October is the dark center from which they get their name. But I know they will greet me again next summer with a lovely splash of yellow to brighten up the garden.
