BEAK/BILL
I always see lots of gulls around town and along the Montague River. For these larger white- headed species of gulls the hooked yellow beak is always prominent with the red dot. The red dot becomes evident when they are about four years old. The bigger and brighter the dot, the more healthier the bird.
Original photo of the gull standing in a shallow part of the salt water of Montague river.
Did you know a gull can drink salt sea water?
The gulls are often seen around fast food outlets hoping someone will toss them out a french fry or some tidbit of food.
They are nature鈥檚 vacuum cleaners and keep parking lots clear of any food waste. These remarkable birds get a bad rap from all their squawking and screeching but they will eat anything, anywhere.
Another species of gull with a darker mottled head and body. The beak is dark.
A special thanks to @melinda010100 for #featheredfriends and to
@nelinoeva for hosting this contest.
All photos are mine and the first one is for the contest.
Location: Prince Edward Island, Canada.
