My Husband Wanted A Tree House For His Man Cave

14 x 11 inches, mixed media paper, pen and ink, watercolor and gouache, July 2017

My dream home since 1973 after I read J.R.R. Tolkien's book "The Hobbit," has been to live in an underground home like a Hobbit. Underground homes are protected from extreme weather and looters. My husband told me be sure you check with the county's floodplain maps. I'm an Oregonian, it rains a lot in my state, we are born knowing where the high water flow. Plus most states won't allow building on floodplains, unless they are corrupt.

I will be drawing up an interior design of the inside of my dream Hobbit hole along with the interior of my greenhouse (hydroponic units included), how I will dispose of waste without polluting, alternative energy units, a hydroelectric generator and wind turbine. I've been reading about alternative energy and getting off the food and energy grid for years. I don't know which structural design I will go with. Definitely not tires, too toxic, there are a lot of great ideas using cement or dirt so I will be checking out structural designs using these two elements. Also using passive solar heat, human, and animal waste for a methane type generator to keep the greenhouse and home warm during the winter.

The fleshing out of drawing.
