When I want to find peace, I paint birds. Their form and feather texture are soothing to copy. One of my favorite happy places is near the edge of the woods, where warblers hang out. Any warbler, it doesn't matter what kind. Eventually, coming back every day, the birds get to know my husband and me as we walk by their territory on our daily walk. Many will fly down to our eye level and make eye contact—their way of saying hello.

The Baltimore oriole is a small icterid blackbird common in eastern North America as a migratory breeding bird. It received its name from the resemblance of the male's colors to those on Lord Baltimore's coat-of-arms.
