Today I finally able to find a suitable image of H.M. Woggle Bug T.E. to upload for my user image. Love the Woggle Bug! Since childhood I have loved the Oz books by L. Frank Baum, although his observations on early 1900's society were lost on me when I originally read them.
The Woggle Bug was just an ordinary, small bug until he wandered into a classroom, where he listened to the lectures of a Professor Nowitall- thus becoming Thoroughly Educated. Woggle bug was eventually captured by the good professor, who projected a magnified image of him on a screen. The Woggle Bug walked off the screen and reinvented himself as Highly Magnified Woggle Bug, Thoroughly Educated.
Some interpret this character as a means for to Baum poke fun at the convention of folks adding credentials after their names to inflate their own sense of importance, etc. I keep H.M. Woggle Bug T.E. in mind to remind me that my M.S.W., LCSW reflect my training, but have nothing to do with my value as a person. Plus he is a natty dresser!
