I know I know
this might seem unusual to my friends in Europe... and Asia... and North America... ok, It may seem weird to everybody except us folks south of the border, but it's lockdown and you might like to try something new :)

You will need:
  • two mugs
  • three juicy limes
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Tajín chile-lime powder(we'll get to this in just a moment)
  • salt
  • pepper
  • hot sauce (if desired)
  • bonus: for an improved michelada drinking experience, ad a side dish of some delicious seafood (as long as you are not allergic)

First thing's first:

Get your first beer mug out of the freezer. You must always keep space for at least two ice cold mugs in case of emergency. Micheladas should never be enjoyed alone as it is considered selfish. Please include a friend or family member.

Step 1 - rim your mug.

You must do this step first. You will find it incredibly difficult to rim the mug if there is liquid in it and you will also feel silly. trust me; I've been there.

cut a lime in half and rub some juice onto the rim of the mug. Make sure you get about an inch in the sides too as this will provide a better mug-licking experience.

dip the wet part of the mug in Tajín chile powder. I understand that this might not be available in your home, so you can use regular salt instead or make your own Tajín. instructions here
your mug should now look like this:

Step 2 - make the juice.

Mix half a cup of a tomato or vegetable cocktail like Clamato. Clamato contains oyster sauce so if you're allergic to this or just don't like it, substitute it for another vegetable or tomato-based cocktail.
squeeze 1 to 2 limes
add a teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
add a drop of hot sauce if desired

Step 3 - pour in your favorite ale or lager.

your finished michelada should look like this:

Step 4 - optional - grind pepper onto the michelada.

If you're like me and think that pepper is amazing, grind a bit of pepper on top of your delicious cocktail to give it that extra peppery kick.

Bonus step - also optional - make a side dish.

We've decided to prepare some squid with red onion, tomato, cilantro, Worcestershire sauce and lime juice.
absolutely amazing!
