Our children have all grown up, and they all live away. Besides my wife, we have two dogs at home, both male, Beef, a 13-year-old Rednose Pitbull, and Igloo, a 6-year-old Rottweiler. So this is a short story about Igloo and how we adopted him.
Left: Igloo just arrived and still looking tired after a good hot bath and a full stomach. Look at his face!
Right: Igloo is wearing a bow tie, looking handsome and goofy!
On December 26th, 2016, a distant relative who lives in another province some 750 km away gave us one of the male Rotweiller puppies from a litter of 8. The puppy had to travel for 12 hours by train. We picked him up early morning at the station and got his paperwork sorted out. We also received his birth certificate, and his name is Igloo. The poor puppy could barely walk. He looked wet, dirty, sleepy, and stinking piss and poop. We had to carry him from the train cargo to the car park about 500 meters away. It was quite a long walk carrying this heavy little stinking puppy.
Igloo the Klingon didn't want to be separated from mom! Imagine we had to carry him for 500 meters to the car park when we first picked him up at the station.
Taking Igloo to the Vet for his vaccination.
We were surprised by his size, much bigger than what we expected! He was only 11 weeks old when we adopted him and already 16 kg, half the weight of our full-grown Pitbull.
We brought him home, gave him a good bath and meal, and introduced him to our Pitbull without any problem. We could see our Pittbull immediately accept and welcome Igloo with delight, and he could not leave Igloo out of his sight.
Igloo is ready to explore the world and impatient for his first walk.
We were surprised when we observed how Beef relented to Igloo (till this day) when we gave him treats. He will always let Igloo have the treats first. Igloo, on the other hand, shows his dominance more and more each day and becomes the alpha.
How could you get angry with him?
Waiting on a friend... a Sharpei!
Igloo is friendly towards people but becomes aggressive when he encounters other dogs that appear aggressive and keeps barking. Some of our neighbors have Husky, Rottweiller, and Golden Retrievers. They often walk their dogs and stop in front of our house. Beef and Igloo would run outside to greet the neighbor's dogs and kiss each other from behind the main gate. We also have neighbors with smaller but noisy dogs that keep barking when passing in front of our house. That will provoke Igloo. He will rush to the front gate, annoyed, and growl as he jumps up and down as if to attack.
Igloo enjoys playing in the water, and he's a natural swimmer.
He gets very excited when visiting his favorite porn site, kittyhub.com!🤣
Taking Igloo for a daily morning walk is also a challenge. We must be fully aware of our surroundings as stray cats are becoming a pest in our neighborhood. Igloo's nemesis is cats! My wife and I had already experienced the sudden pull by Igloo and fell.
There were times when stray cats wandered into our house and got caught by Igloo. He may have a large build and looks slightly awkward the way he walks, but when it is time for hunting, cats, or rats, he could be very fast and agile!
The majestic Igloo may look intimidating, but he's goofy and lovable.
Igloo is about 1.5x bigger and heavier than Beef. Although Igloo seems to be the calmer one, in reality, he is more aggressive, especially towards cats! Every evening after his meal, he would sit in front of me with his back pushed towards me, asking for a full body massage. He's goofy, lovable, and always hungry!
Igloo is more reactive towards sounds, especially the Adhan (call to prayer for the Moslems) that we can hear in our neighborhood daily. Every morning around 4:30, he will howl along when he hears the morning call to prayer. We don't mind it as my wife is an early riser. We think of it as our wake-up alarm. When he hears someone mimicking a howl, and if he likes it, he will howl along.
