Towards smart homes

Tech companies promised us smart homes capable of recognizing residents, understanding commands, and automating daily tasks; in reality, however, much of this experience still relies on apps, complex configurations, and virtual assistants that don’t always grasp what we want. Now, Apple has unveiled a new approach to change that dynamic.

The device, called HomeView, combines a touchscreen with artificial intelligence features and a more advanced version of Siri. It is designed to serve as a central control hub for the home—integrating information, communication, and automation—with one of its most compelling features being the ability to recognize exactly who is using it.

According to details released about the launch, HomeView can identify up to six different people and tailor parts of its interface to each user’s preferences and personal data, providing more customized responses. When connected to an iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence, Siri can also draw on information from apps such as Messages and Calendar.

HomeView was announced on October 13, 2026, with a starting price of $299 in the United States and a scheduled release date of November 13 in select markets.
