Never felt the importance of paying with crypto until today, dont get me wrong, I have always known the importance of crypto payment but never felt it this bad not untill today. In my country, Nigeria, crypto is known but not fully adopted, you can’t walk up to the store and buy stuff and pay with crypto, I truly wish this was possible. This is because I was embarrassed today at the supermarket today because my bank decided to go inactive today. I walked up to the store with full confidence and took groceries from the shelf like I always do. Took some wafers biscuits, the ones I love so much.

As usual, I didnt wait to reach the cashier before I popped one of the wafers biscuits opened and started eating them. I was on the queue waiting for my turn, it was taking too long to get to my turn so I opened the second wafers biscuit and ate it. Just to keep me busy while I wait for my turn, few minutes later, it got to my turn. My items were scanned for their prices and I was told the price, I gave them my card, they inputed the price, asked for my pin, I dialled my pin and the card declined. The cashier looked at my card and said that my bank company card has not been working for all customers. She suggested I made transfer, my bank app refused to open, and there I was standing with the empty sachet of wafer biscuit I couldn’t pay for because my bank is not working. I felt so embarrassed I was this close to asking them if they collect crypto because I had no other means to pay them.
I stood there so confused, I checked my pocket and saw some few change, used it to pay for the wafers I ate. If I didn’t have those changes to pay with, I would have been stranded in the supermarket. Unfortunately I didn’t hold enough to pay for the rest of the groceries. I checked twitter and typed the name of my bank and saw over 200 tweets of people complaining the same thing about my bank. I needed to cook so bad but had no means to buy groceries. If paying with crypto was globally adopted all I had to do was use one of my crypto wallet and make payment. The whole cryptocurrencies in the world can not have issues at the same time, based on decentralisation, different people are involved in the crypto chain. Can’t for crypto adoption and crypto payment to be fully global so I dont have to experience this ever again. I am at home hungry as hell but can’t get food because my bank is not working, but I have money in crypto, but can’t use it because they dont accept crypto. How is your Easter Sunday going?
