Crypto should be the most volatile asset in the world, it’s a very delicate issue to have millions of dollars on a site or a cold storage that is very vulnerable. If it’s a hot wallet, it’s vulnerable to hackers and your seed phrase is likely to get seen, if it’s in a cold storage wallet, it’s vulnerable to being stolen physically and the seed phrase getting to stolen. Having your seed phrase saved in your head is also bad because when the person dies, the asset dies along with them. So the best way to keep your seed phrase safe depends on you.

The winklevoss twins are one of the most valuable prominent crypto investors in the world who own the Gemini exchange. They rose to fame when they sued Mark Zuckerberg for the Facebook idea, they claimed that Mark Zuckerberg stole the Facebook idea from them. They won the law suit and were settled, they used their settlement to invest in crypto and became billionaires. They are rumored to own over 70,000 Bitcoin, but how do they keep these coins safe? It is said that to keep their asset safe, they bought a laptop that had no access to the internet and printed about three copies of their private keys. The laptop used in printing those keys was smashed into pieces. They did not only smash the laptop but buried it under concrete, I feel they could have burnt it.

They decided to spread the keys across different countries at different time zone just so that a thief won’t have access to them at the same time if they tried. But in my own opinion I feel this is just a decoy by painting a false image to distract the thief from their real hiding space. Which ever way, as long as it’s working and protecting their 70,000 Bitcoin. Do you think this is an extreme way to save your private keys? Some people save their private keys by scrambling them in a way that only them understand it, while some save theirs in a safe deposit box. Some go as far as inscribing them on a metal.

I prefer the metal inscription, this way you are guaranteed of the longevity of the surface you are storing your keys. But also making it discret for an outsider not to understand.
