Lately we have been seeing a lot of Web 3.0 apps trying to replace twitter, you won’t blame them for trying because twitter is a social media platform where lots of Web 3.0 communities interact with each other. The app is mostly where projects pass out their information to their community, after that we have discord. If I see a crypto project without a twitter account I get uninterested, because twitter is one of the best place for communities to interact, you can get a lot of useful information fro there. But the difference is that, twitter is highly centralised. It’s a Web 2.0 platform, own by Elon Musk, one of the richest people in the world, and a good business man.

Being a Web 2.0 platform, you dont own your account or your data, anything you tweet or do is subjected to being taken down someday. I had to do an airdrop task that involved daily commenting interactions because I was scared of my 10 year old twitter account getting flagged for spamming. This means that we need new platforms like twitter that is decentralised and gives us full ownership, twitter can’t be decentralised because it’s owned and backed by investors. Why will they want to stop making money from their investments?

Lots of Web 3.0 projects have launched but not gotten the publicity yet, I have used lots of them and they still dont feel like twitter, and I dont think they will be replacing twitter any time soon. Phaver launched, gain some popularity, but still doesn’t feel like twitter, lens launched and the same thing, now we are seeing the farcaster trend. Mind you, these platforms gained popularity because airdrop was expected, but twitter is free to use for me and still, no Web 3.0 seem to be able to replace it.
