For the last decade or so, air pullution has been an increasingly serious problem in Beijing, with PM 2.5 and AQI at alarmingly high levels, causing health risks to local citizens and expats alike. The Chinese government is highly aware of this status quo and has been doing what it can to solve this problem, including shutting down factories and limiting the use of vehicles, etc. However, now and then Beijing will face days of air pollution, which has cast a thick shadow on this vibrant ancient yet modern metropolis.
This morning, when I woke up I found the air heavily polluted. So I had to wear a mask before leaving home. As I walked on the streets, I could clearly see sand-like color in the air. I could also smell it through the mask. The PM 10 of Beijing today was exremely high, caused by sand brought about by wind from the north. I took the above photo while walking on an overpass near Dongdan.
Human health is of vital importance. Without health, everything else is meaningless. It's reported that air pollution could have highly negative effect on human health, cause diseases and reduce life expectancy. It's my hope that China will win the war against air pollution so its people can breathe fresh and clean air again.
