¿Qué tal? Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes mi opinión y breve descripción de una película que vi hace unos días: El matrimonio Loving.
Esta es una película estrenada en el año 2016 y protagonizada por Joel Edgerton y Ruth Negga, siendo ella mi motivación inicial para verla, ya que me parece muy talentosa.
La película cuenta la historia real del matrimonio compuesto por Mildred y Richard Loving en los años 1958. Esta era una pareja interracial, algo que estaba mal visto para entonces, principalmente en el estado de Virginia, Estados Unidos, que es donde ellos vivían y donde se desarrolla la película.

This is a movie released in 2016 and starring Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga, being her my initial motivation to watch it, as I find her very talented.
The film tells the true story of the marriage composed by Mildred and Richard Loving in the years 1958. This was an interracial couple, something that was frowned upon at the time, mainly in the state of Virginia, United States, which is where they lived and where the film takes place.
Desde el comienzo la pareja da la impresión de ser muy unida, cariñosa y a quienes realmente no les importa una diferencia entre ellos que para otros es fatal. Ellos intentan vivir una vida normal, propia de una pareja que se quiere, que está en la espera de su primer hijo y que tiene planes de una vida juntos, por ejemplo, haciendo los preparativos para iniciar esta vida en un nuevo hogar.
Richard le pide matrimonio a Mildred pero saben que deben salir del estado para poder concretar legalmente su unión, algo ante lo cual algunos parientes y amigos están dudosos ya que en el estado en el que viven, esta unión no es legal. Es por ello que una noche la policía invade la casa de la pareja enviándolos a ambos a la cárcel y tratándola a ella despectivamente como si fuera una cosa, y a él como un joven que está cometiendo un error.
En algún punto de la película me percaté del desagrado que yo estaba sintiendo frente a algunos argumentos que planteaban las autoridades de Virginia y algunos conocidos y familiares de los Loving producto de esta unión, como por ejemplo cuando le dicen a Richard "eres mejor que esto" y su propia madre diciendo "merecías algo mejor". Por supuesto, seguramente lo planteado en la película es insignificante en comparación con lo que tuvo que vivir esta pareja (y otras) en la vida real, y eso lo vuelve aún más triste.
From the beginning the couple gives the impression of being very united, loving and who really do not care about a difference between them that for others is fatal. They try to live a normal life, typical of a couple who love each other, who are expecting their first child and who have plans for a life together, for example, making preparations to start this life in a new home.
Richard asks Mildred to marry him, but they know that they must leave the state in order to legally enter into their union, something that some relatives and friends are doubtful about, since in the state where they live, this union is not legal. That is why one night the police invade the couple's house sending them both to jail and treating her contemptuously as if she were a thing, and him as a young man who is making a mistake.
At some point in the film I became aware of the displeasure I was feeling at some of the arguments made by the Virginia authorities and some of the Loving's acquaintances and family members who are the product of this union, such as Richard being told "you're better than this" and his own mother saying "you deserved better." Of course, surely what is raised in the film is insignificant compared to what this couple (and others) had to live through in real life, and that makes it even sadder.
Los Loving deciden continuar con su matrimonio en otro estado luego de ser casi obligados a salir de su estado natal por 25 años porque, de no ser así, irían a la cárcel.
Se puede ver como para ambos fue una difícil adaptación, vivieron algunos años muy infelices lejos de sus familiares, intentando hacer una nueva vida diferente a la que imaginaban para su futuro.
Pocos años después, cansada de no poder darle a sus hijos la vida que esperaba, Mildred decide alzar su voz y pedir ayuda con su caso para poder volver a su estado natal, enviando una carta a un abogado que, en plena época de marchas en pro de los derechos de las personas de color, hace lo posible por ayudarla y tratar de ganar esta batalla legal y darle un cambio a la constitución del país.
The Loving's decide to continue their marriage in another state after being almost forced to leave their home state for 25 years because, otherwise, they would go to jail.
You can see how for both of them it was a difficult adjustment, they lived some very unhappy years away from their relatives, trying to make a new life different from the one they imagined for their future.
A few years later, tired of not being able to give her children the life she expected, Mildred decides to raise her voice and ask for help with her case to be able to return to her home state, sending a letter to a lawyer who, in the midst of marches for the rights of people of color, does his best to help her and try to win this legal battle and give a change to the country's constitution.
