I would suggest you get closer to the subject, add a little more contrast to separate the different shades of greens and also try to get the focusing more sharper. Hope this helps. I prefer the 2nd one

Trees are amazing, the detail in the wood and the aging process combined with the daily weather they are subjected to. I always try to implement a tree in the foreground on many of my out of town photographs.
