This post was inspired by a post gadrian@gadrian an wrote about writer's block a couple of days ago.
What to Write? What to Write? It has happened to all of us I am sure - the dreaded writer's block. It happens.

Sometimes I have this great idea about a post but when I start a post do I remember my idea NO! This has an easy solution. Keep a notepad handy and when writing muse strikes you write it down. Do this every time a great idea strikes. It doesn't matter where the idea comes from. With a notepad full of ideas you can find something to write about.

Another method that can get you ahead of the game is keeping a swipe file. A swipe file is really just a variation of the notepad. Make "SWIPE" folders on your computer. I have 4 swipe folders

  1. Landing pages I like
  2. Email subject lines that got my attention
  3. Email text that made me want to click the link
  4. Miscellaneous that holds anything else that got my attention

These 4 folders help me in more ways than writer's block. I will leave it to your imagination how you might use the information in the folders.

Read and comment on others' posts. You may get an idea from what others wrote. As I said at the beginning of this post, I got this idea from a post that gadrian@gadrian an did.

My last and, at least for me, foolproof idea. Start writing. But that's the problem right. Here is how to get started. Use a simple phrase like, "The purpose of this post is..." For some reason, writing those few words will get you started. You can always come back and delete the starting phrase when you are editing what you wrote if it is not needed anymore. Find the starting phrase that works for you

Just start writing

Here are 4 ways to break through writer's block

  1. Keep a notepad handy
  2. Keep swipe files on your computer
  3. Read others' posts and comments for inspiration
  4. Have a phrase that can start your writing.

I hope these ideas help. Let me know in your comments Thanks.

P.S. I would love to hear phrases that you will use to get your writing started.
