I had been thinking about writing a post like this for a couple of weeks but just didn't have the nerve until
- A question posed by
@bradleyarrow
- A post by
@gadrian
- An example in a post by
@jongolson
A few days ago @bradleyarrow posed a question in one of his posts. He asked,
Is ListNerds sustainable?
I think this is a very reasonable question given what I have seen recently in ListNerds emails.
If you read your ListNerds emails every day, you will read many emails praising ListNerds for the rewards they are earning. You will also find many emails questioning why did I wait so long to upgrade to the Enterprise level. (An Enterprise level upgrade allows you to send 2 emails a day plus a solo email.) This is great news for ListNerds... or is it?
A trend I have seen on ListNerds is that only emails with links to posts with content are highly rewarded. Again this is a good thing. Right? Another trend I see (based on reputation score) is that any email that points to a post rather than s splash page is rewarded with upvotes.
The post by @gadrian that influenced this post is How To Improve Your Curation If You Have Low Hive Power?
In this post, he says
What you should do instead is to vote on the post(s) instead if they are above the dust threshold or you believe they will be. And within the first 24 hours. No need to slash your curation rewards unnecessarily by voting after the first day.
It was "within the first 24 hours" that caught my attention. Was I wasting my upvotes on older posts? I started paying attention to when posts were created. What I noticed was many of the posts were well past the 24-hour point.
Finally, the post I read by @jongolson was One Account To Rule Them All... Or Not?
But then there's....My ActiFit posts that I've started doing again. These are usually a quick photo of the hike I took and a few sentences describing my day out and about. Hardly what would be considered high-quality content. And I'm doing most of these posts to keep building my habits every day.
This is actually a mirrored my personal sentiments. The point is not all content is valuable. My two favorite "NOT" valuable posts are
- The picture of a cat with one word "terrified".
- The picture of a waste basket overflowing with used tissues followed be 2 or 3 sentences saying the family was sick.
Let's get back to the original question.
Is ListNerds Sustainable?
Here is what I would like you to think about before answering that questions.
- Many people are upgrading to be able to send more emails to receive more rewards.
- Upgraded members need to produce multiple emails every day to maximize rewards.
- Content takes time to create and many of these upgraded members have limited time to work on ListNerds.
- This necessitates recycling of existing posts, sometimes the same posts multiple times, or delivering low-value content that can be produced quickly.
- People tend to upvote most emails regardless of content.
- Members can easily earn over $100/day (using ListNerd token = $2), some are over $1000/day based on people's goals and the Rich List.
Is ListNerds sustainable. I honestly don't know. I don't have enough information to make an educated guess. Could the market support the top 10 ListNerds cashing in (over $150,000)? Again, I don't know. What do you think?
I wrote this post to solicit people's thoughts and for no other reason. ListNerds is a great product with a very loyal core community. I am sure @jongolson and
@blainjones thought all of this out before creating ListNerds 2.0.
Leave a comment with your thoughts.
See You At The Bank,
