Birds!

So now, birds chirping are always associated with the beautiful spring, whereby flowers bloom and the birds chirp away, painting a perfect scene for a day at the garden.

While a bird's song can definitely liven up the surroundings, birds chirping can actually be used to save lives. Yups, not kidding you, for real!

So in the past, miners would always bring canaries in a cage, into a mine. As the canary chirp away, the miners would happily work. Nope, it is not because of motivation, but as a safety measure.

You see, mines are often filled with Carbon Monoxide, also referred to as CO. Carbon Monoxide is an odourless and colourless gas. When breathed in in large volume, what happens is that the carbon monoxide gas will react with the haemogoblin within our blood to form carboxyhaemogoblin, impairing the ability of our blood to transport oxygen to muscles. What will happen next is the person will pass out, before dying. So here is the thing, if a person passes out, there will be no way to remove himself/herself from the situation, thus a sure way to kill the victim.

So now, here comes the canary. If Carbon Monoxide is present, it would kill the canary first. So if miners see their canary drop dead, they will evacuate immediately, thus saving them.

So yes, for miners the beautiful chirp of the canaries are literally the voices of angels.
