Music for Dance Sport - Standard Ballroom (Viennese Waltz)!
Now the third of the 4 part series, Viennese Waltz! Honestly, this post will be tougher, but let me try my best. Why? Cause out of the 4 genres, this is the one that I prefer the least. So naturally, this is my worst dance genre.
Viennese Waltz
Now honestly, Viennese Waltz to me looks the same as Waltz, but it is different to some extent actually. So Viennese Waltz is the oldest out of the Standard Ballroom genre, and is generally double the pace of the Waltz (which is sometimes referred to as the slow Waltz).
To me, maybe because I am still at the extremely basic level for the V Waltz, it is just some mad spinning. I recall getting myself pretty nausea. Why? Here is a clip to show you what V Waltz is like
Now compared to my previous post on the Waltz, you can see that this is faster paced.
Standard Ballroom Fun Fact
Do you know that for all Standard Ballroom dances, the guy is the one driving the direction and the techniques to be used whereas the lady is just, "Blooming". For the start, it is immensely tiring to just stand there. As a dancer, the guy is supposed to elongate our neck. Yes, I am not talking nonsense, it is true. There is a technique to elongate your neck. Notice every single male dancers are supposed to elongate our necks, and that makes us more refined. As the lady, she is supposed to push herself all the way back so that it "blooms" and she takes up more space. It is super tough in my opinion, and you have to freaking stay in that basic posture throughout the entire dance while looking graceful, how??? Mad respect for the ladies
Movements
Another fun fact for Standard Ballroom as a whole, the guy is the main driver deciding on the direction and technique, whereas the lady just follows. Interesting right? They all look so in synced, but actually the guy is dictating the entire flow of the dance. They are able to communicate what technique to decide through split second muscle movements, just a twitch of the muscle and at where is enough to allow the lady to know what is the next move. And it is completely impossible to pre coordinate before the competition. Why? Cause there are so many couples in the ballroom, their movements will sometimes cut across your path and as such, you cannot just blindly do your things. You will collide with each other! And this doesn't look good, evidently as you can see in the clip! Not convinced? Here you go!
So yea, you really have to decide on the spot on your techniques, no pre planning! And also, it is up to the guy. With the lady moving backwards most of the time, it is virtually impossible for the lady to see where she is moving. So is literally moving high speed backwards while looking graceful. I don't know man, I don't think I can do that. Mad respect. So yea, male dancers please have some good sense or else your dance partner will suffer a lot.
