Music for Dance Sport - Standard Ballroom (Tango)!
Ok, so just to sneak a peak, I dance too! Back in my university days, I was dancing competitively. Now, with an athlete's body, it was interesting and I made quite a few heads confused when I decided to not do my usual sport, and do Dance Sport. Now dancing is just dancing, ain't too tough right? WRONG! Dance Sport received the title of sport because it is equally ridiculously draining and taxing too!
But first, just an introduction to Standard Ballroom. There are quite a few genres of Standard Ballroom dance, which I will briefly go through the ones that I dance as well in the following few posts. But basically, every single dance you see in a Disney movie, yea I can do it too!
Tango
This is easily the most intense one out of all the mentioned genres. Not in terms of physical requirement, but literally the dance is very very fierce. Quick sharp movements, snaps, hip torque movement, mad...
Now listen to this, this is like a typical standard music. Notice you can totally hear the beat, and the music tense to lean towards the intense side. In fact, virtually every beat you hear is equivalent to one step that you have to take.
This is at blackpool, one of the best of the best. This is like the world cup of soccer, literally the best!
Origin
Now yes the Argentinian were the ones who really made it famous, but a lesser known fact is that Tango is an amalgamation of Africa, Spain, Italy, England, Poland and Russia actually played a relatively significant part in the influence of the Tango culture. What we see and hear today, is actually a melting pot of such rich culture all in one.
King of Tango
Well, I wouldn't say king... But a clear famous figure for tango would be the famous Carlos Gardel, which a pity he passed at the age of 44.
Another really famous Tango dancer is El Cachafaz. Other than knowing he is one of the pioneer for Tango, after research shows that he was traveling places to places to dance for money. And why pioneer? He was from the very town that originated Tango, Buenos Aires, Argentina!
