Music for Sport - Boxing!
Now recently, I have been training boxing. It has been almost a year, and my improvement is incremental bit by bit. So honestly, I also am not sure how much I have improved. I guess, I am landing more and receiving less! So that is a good sign right?
So basically, music is INSANELY IMPORTANT in boxing! Now I am very sure you have heard of the phrase, "Float Like A Butterfly, Sting Like A Bee" right? This is a super famous quote from Muhammad Ali, mad skills.

Training Styles
Now music is not only used for training, it is a style of boxing as well! Many a times, we describe boxers as dancers. Their movements in the ring are so sleek, they are practically dancing! Case in point, Prince Naseem Hamed! Yes, you got it right, he is indeed a royalty! I am wondering, the nerves of this opponent to punch him, a royalty!
Just watch this short clip below, it is mad! It is a really short clip just a couple of seconds only. This is a boxing style that I really admire, how carefree but super unpredictable. A killer knockout punch can just come about anytime man with that man! Come to think of it, something like capoeira eh?
Boxing Training
Not just a style, music is often blasted while we train. It is not just to fill the void, but it is really to sync our movements to the tempo. Never once will you go to a boxing gym and hear a slow tempo song, never. And in order to not be a public nuisance when training alone, we tend to shadowbox with headphones on as well. The rhythm is super important for a boxer, it is not just entertainment, it is a form of training. A wrong song might mess your rhythm and end your fight early man.
Now this video doesn't show shadowboxing, but as you can see music is essential. Pretty much throughout the entire clip, the boxer is on some form of headphones or earpiece or sort. I can't stress on the importance of this tempo and rhythm!
Now enough about me sharing how music played a part in boxing, a sport I am passionate about.
