I think most of the things got invented because we wanted to make our life easier but the wanting to have more increased. The desires does not know the point where to end. Once you have something the next you lose interest or try to move to the next goal. At the same time, I also think if everyone in the world felt completely happy with what they already had, I don't think then the technology would have grown so fast. In the past time, when I was a teenage boy I used to live in the village with my family. So there was a river which we had to cross because there was no bridge and it was not that distant. Me and my friends we used to cross the rivers through a small boat. I remembered that an old man from my village he was the sailor of that boat and usually people told him that a bigger boat with an engine would help him earn more money. But he never agreed to it, he said, "This little boat feeds my family, so why should I rush?" At that time, I thought he must be a fool who thought like that. Now, after crossing fifty years of life, I understand him better.

Most inventions begin because someone sees a problem and wants to solve it. When we had hunger issues people created better farming methods. The same goes for transportation, it used to take days to travel from one city to another so these long journeys encouraged faster transportation and for that reason we have car, bike, bicycle, bus, CNG and rickshaw now. When we lived far away and couldn't contact our loved ones then this distance inspired the telephone and the internet. So, what did we learn from this? That our need has always pushed us to think differently.

However, I still won't say that our greed is the only reason for progress. Because there's a huge difference between wanting a better life and wanting everything for yourself. We know doctors save lives, and they try to search for the cures so can we call that greedy? Of course not, because they want to save the patient right? A teacher who finds a better way to educate children is not driven by selfishness. They improve their teaching methods because they care about the future of those children.

For an actual example, I have worked hard not because I'm selfish and I want something in return. It's because I love my family. I never wanted luxury for the sake of showing off. I wanted to stabilise their life so that they don't ever feel the need to struggle. I want to provide good education for my children and a peaceful home. So, if I want to work hard then I need to learn new skills and improve, I have to accept change. If everything was easier and there was no obstacle then, I might have remained comfortable and never grown as a person.

If the world were truly perfect, with no conflict, no disasters and no shortages then most of the great inventions might never have existed. People would have less urgency to discover or improve. But I think it would be not that bad, I think it have helped people to spend more time with family and enjoy the nature instead of chasing the next breakthrough. So, I believe growth does not require hatred or greed but it does require purpose. If there's no purpose then there's no path as well, it's like a dead end. The best technology is not created by people who want to own the world. The purpose should be to make the world a little easier for everyone. That is the kind of progress worth celebrating.
