When I hear that bad intentions are caused because of the clothes, I really feel angry about it. Because how can someone be so cruel and say something like that? If you're mature enough then you should at least have basic knowledge. I am a father of two young daughters, this is not just a topic I think about from a distance. Sometimes, I really feel scared for my daughters because there are many psychopaths around the world.
First of all, I believe there's no fixed definition of modesty. I feel it varies as in person, family or religion. In Muslim country like Bangladesh, Pakistan people consider a burqa the proper form of modesty. Because it's a Muslim country. On others may consider a saree or salwar kameez modest, and some may say a dress that is not above the knee is considered modest. So, is there any one answer? Everyone will say that their way is the correct one because that's how it's been. People believe if women are covered then they won't be harassed but there's actually no guarantee for that. People who want to do bad deed, they will do it at any cost to fulfil their lustful thoughts.
We cannot dress according to every person's perspective just to satisfy their narrow way of thinking. I think if you feel bothered look away having different clothing preferences is normal. But judging, harassing or looking at someone with lust is completely unacceptable. We can never control what others will see us like but we can punish those who attempts to harass, instead of blaming the clothings. Let's actually, point out the real issue and punish the one who did it.
If it was about clothes then boys wouldn't be harassed by men and even the kids. The argument that clothing causes such behavior has no logic for it when it's about kids or boys. What exactly is attractive or inappropriate about a child that could possibly justify such cruelty?
To me, the real problem is the sick minded people and their decision to act on harmful desires. These people only acts due to their lust because they are desperate, to save themselves later they use excuses to justify what they have done. Clothing becomes an excuse because it is easier to blame the victim than to accept responsibility. I hate that even people defend such behavior when the victim is a stranger. I know they would have thought of it differently if it was someone they loved.
I have been teaching my daughters that their clothes do not determine their worth and nobody has the right to disrespect. We should teach our sons to behave and teach them how to respect boundaries.
Do we need to save our sons from the outside "no" because they are the one causing chaos out there, not everyone I know that but the one should be kept at home should've been the boys not the girls, the one should follow modesty should be the boys not the girls because we need protection from men not the women. When we talk about protection whom are we trying to protect our girls from? Obviously it's always a man, it's not me or you but it doesn't change the fact that it's always a man. In the end, it's the lustful mindset and there's nothing wrong with the attire.
