Anyone can become a parent but not everyone deserves to have a child. And it is true, people like her should be held accountable for what they are doing. She is traumatizing her own son and one day he may grow up carrying anger and some deep emotional wounds because of what she put him through.
It could be the opposite too that that child may grow up believing that abuse is a form of love because they are taught from an early age to accept it from the very people they trust the most and that is their own parent. Also, not to forget we always end up loving our abusers and it doesn't matter who it is.
I think parents do this kind of act because they have physical advantage and children are not strong enough to fight back. But when those children grow up and become physically stronger then their parents do not get the chance to hit them anymore because they know their child will not tolerate it anymore.
Being a parent is a responsibility, not a license to hurt a child. So, I don't think it's okay to hurt anyone physically even if it's a kid or someone older. Kids are naive and they don't know what they are doing, so we should be understanding.
