I know, it's been a little while since I did a gimme 5 post. Well with the hf20 and not being able to post for 5 days, I kinda forgot about this little series that I started.
Argentina got its name from the Spanish adjective meaning ‘silvery’, because when Spanish conquerors landed there the natives presented them with silver objects.
Silver is stable in oxygen and water, but tarnishes when exposed to ozone, hydrogen sulfide or air containing sulfur due to a reaction with sulfur compounds which cause a black sulfide layer.
The saying “born with a silver spoon in his/her mouth” is commonly interpreted to mean that a child was born into wealth. But it’s origins came from feeding children with actual silver spoons because of the metal’s germ-killing properties. People of ancient civilizations also stored water, wine, and vinegar in silver bottles for the same reason.
