While looking for skinks today I stumbled upon a black racer.
I grew up in the snake free Hawaiian Islands, so I'm still a little freaked when I see a snake in the wild.
Black Racers are non-venomous constrictors, but they can act a bit crazy around humans and aren't afraid to bite.
Here you can see the ends of the forked tongue.
This one was actively hunting but didn't attack anything for the 10 minutes I patiently followed it.
I estimated this Black Racer was about 3 feet long.
The thick black skin always reminds me of a bicycle tire.
They are called Racers because of their incredible speed. I try not to get too close because the combination of fast and crazy equals scary.
