On the muddy shores of the intercoastal it is common to stumble upon colonies of Fiddler Crabs.
I went birding and witnessed the shores shifting across to my right. It was a mass of Fiddler Crabs moving together in unison.
I singled out a few for a closer look. The male's large primary claw is fascinating. This one had a pronounced right claw.
While all of his friends disappeared down holes and into nearby grasslands, this guy made his last stand with his back against a rock.
I had time to snap my Macro lens into place and get some close up shots of this brave Fiddler Crab.
The difference between the claws is incredible.
He was carefully watching my every move.
Looks like his prominent claw has been intact for a while with the coloring, texture and moss that develops over time. If they lose their big claw they start to adapt one on the opposite side in their next molt.
