I'm not entirely sure what this insect is that I found on a North Florida nature trail. Somehow I spotted it and took out my Macro Lens to get a better look.
He was missing one of his powerful back jumping legs.
When I encountered it I had no idea what it was. It looked like a cross between a Grasshopper and a Cricket.
After researching it, my best guess is that it is a type of Katydid, probably an Eastern Shieldback. However I had trouble finding a conclusive match.
I think if he had both legs I wouldn't have been able to get these shots.
Very interesting and strange looking insect!
