Dogpiling is bad and unethical. It's also highly ineffective. If you look at YouTube comments, this is a common tactic used by scammers. People will recommend someone's service and a bunch of other people will reply to the comment with weird testimonials. This doesn't attract content creators and at best will bring in low hanging fruit on false pretenses. Just because you can get a group of people to rally around something, doesn't mean that's a good reason to bully people into doing something. It's also illegal to engage in these types of false advertising and deceptive practices so it will be interesting to see the outcome of all of this since Matthew is putting his name on all of this. It's easy to get behind the idea of having Hive grow and everyone prosper but a lot of people want easy answers and want to cut corners to get there which will have consequences. We need to engage in marketing in ways that won't mislead people or endanger Hive's reputation at large.

It should also be recognized that this tactic likens Hive to Bitclout and it's generally better to differentiate from existing use cases instead of just attempting to copycat an idea that already has a lot of criticism and backlash.

The problem is the existing Hive infrastructure and setup isn't really friendly for these creators to port over to Hive due to its 7 day window for payouts. Creators use YouTube because its gives them the ability to leverage their content long term which gives them residual income. We don't even respect the content creators that have already ported over because when their fans upvote content and then whales see that and deem the content to be overvalued they exercise their downvote which pushes content creators and fanbases away similar to the Patreon boycott. This has already happened multiple times and many whales come up with weird nitpicks such as it being multicast to multiple platforms without "personalizing" for Hive. It's easy for Matthew to express confidence in this idea because of the Dunning-Kruger effect but if you actually critically think about it at all then you realize how unethical, ineffective and likely illegal it is. It's also a centralizing force when you leverage 500k-1M in funds to a single party effort and if it were somehow successful would probably exacerbate existing issues on Hive which we should probably work out better before we scale up marketing efforts.
