Steemit is the most significant blockchain experience in the social 2.0 environment, a striking mix between the characteristics of these new ways of digital communities and the potential of distributed accounting technology (DLT). Its blockchain has a new tool that will allow the creation of tokens, called Smart Media Token (SMT), and APPICS, a social network similar to Instagram, will be the first to use this element.
APPICS is a social network app that runs on Steemit's blockchain and is based on the full support of Steemit Inc., in which, as happens in Steemit, users receive rewards in cryptoactives when they comment and create over on the platform about contents. What is different is that APPICS focuses on the instantaneous exchange of tokens, specifically rewarding the creation and consumption of content -visuals and videos similar to what is proposed by Instagram, according to information shared in Steemit.

Similarly, the SMT protocol has its first practical application hand in hand with the ingenious APPICS project, which seeks to place blockchain at the service of visual developers worldwide. The platform was started by Tony Winchester, a well-known Steemit user for being part of the mining pioneers and Bitcoin dealers, which has focused its attention on the potential of networks and influencers; Uma Hagenguth entrepreneur specialized in the digital business transition; and Sandro Ieva, who has worked with blockchain and also in the creation of websites and visual contents.
The platform has a total of 15 categories: music, travel, lifestyle, games, makeup, fashion, sports, fitness, news, comedy, dance art, charity, technology, food. The latter will allow users and projects to raise financing campaigns, creating resources for their charitable objectives from the development of visual content of charity.
On the other hand, there will be 4 additional categories to empower the APPICS community: "popular", which presents content trends; "Challenges" which consists of collecting viral tendencies in the community; "Live" where users who are broadcasting live and finally "welcome" where users who are starting have the opportunity to highlight their first publication to gain popularity.
The project will offer an Initial Currency Offer (ICO) in the coming weeks, although neither the date nor the sales scheme of the APPICS coin token (XAP) has been specified.
The purpose of Smart Media Token is that any of the more than 350,000 users of the app can create their own token similar to Steem in the blockchain of the social network, as established by Steemit CEO Ned Scott through a published post in your account on the network. Unlike other protocols for creating popular tokens, such as Ethereum's ERC-20, the SMT will allow "content companies to take advantage of these tokens by aligning incentives between users and applications," according to the whitepaper.
