Behind closed doors you never see beyond, beyond sports success, beyond fame, beyond what seems like a dream life, but sometimes, and only sometimes, it is not.
How about feeling that your success as a person is tied to your succes in sports?
That is the case of many athletes, not only today, but throughout history. LeBron James, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and even Michael Jordan himself.
Sometimes fans, for the simple fact of being fans, believe they have power over a player who plays for the team they support. A very clear example of this is LeBron James, who left Cleveland in 2010 to pursue a championship with the Miami Heat.
LeBron gave 7 incredible years to Cleveland, but when the time came to make a decision for his career, what did the Cavs fans do? They burned his shirt!
Fans of the Cleveland set fire to LeBron James' jersey, called him with insolent nicknames and made him the most detestable guy in the city. The most ironic thing is that years later, he returned to the franchise to give them their first title in history, and of course, become the most beloved player ... Again.
Another case is Carmelo Anthony, a player who started his career in Denver and quickly became one of the most recognized scorers in the NBA. After several years with the Nuggets, Carmelo put his eyes on the Knicks, a New York team, his hometown, which also were looking to assemble a team for the championship.
The Big Apple team did everything to get Anthony's services, and of course, "Melo" also did everything to play at Madison Square Garden.
To make it short, the truth is that yes, Carmelo played six and a half seasons in New York, and no, they did not win a championship. In fact, his last years in the team, although they were not fatal for him in the individual, they were very black for the team.
How did it finish?
Carmelo was practically kicked out of the team where he always dreamed of playing.
Not everything we see, as succes in sports, is what it seems. Sometimes we dream with being one of them, the ones that we see in the front of the newspaper, that are recognized wherever they go, but ... Do we really know what comes with it?
