🦉 The yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella)
📚 Emberiza embritz (Old German) bunting
📚 citrinella citrine (lat.) yellow; citrinella (Italian) yellow bird
I noticed these birds in the meadow at the beginning of September. There are practically no tall trees in the meadow, there are only tall grasses, thickets, and a few shrubs with fruits. And going up to one such bush, I saw several of these birds.
When they saw me, they became worried and began to hide. I would even say they were hiding inside the bush and trying to get out from the other side.
The bird is granivorous, feeding on various seeds of grasses and plants. However, during the breeding season, it eats insects and spiders. Interestingly, Fledglings are fed a mixed meal, that is, first semi-digested food, and then whole solid food.
