馃 The hazel grouse (Tetrastes bonasia)
- Tetrastes Greek: tetra艒n hunting bird, -ast膿s creator
- bonasia the etymology is unclear, one of the assumptions is "bonum" good, "assum" roast (lat).
A surprising and rare bird in the forests of my city. It's relatively large and heavy, but that doesn't stop it from moving silently. It even runs across the grass and dry fallen leaves without making a sound!
All this makes her a very difficult subject to observe and photograph. Every time I encounter her, I spend about an hour trying to get even one photo.
