🦉 The grey wagtail (Motacilla cinerea)
- Motacilla lat .: mōto, mōtare move continuously, -cilla tail (cilla like a tail - only in ornithology, erroneous established name)
- cinerea lat.: cineris ash, cinereus, cineraceus ash gray
We call this bird the "mountain wagtail," and I don't know why. It's probably because it lives in large numbers near mountain streams in neighboring regions. In my city, this bird is extremely rare! I've only seen it a few times in mixed forest.
In appearance, it closely resembles both the white wagtail and the yellow wagtail. It behaves similarly and feeds in the same way.
