Extreme levels of snowfall in Uttarakhand, India, have killed at least 150 people

More than 150 workers of the Rishi Ganga power project are reported missing, according to news agencies.
High alert has been issued in four districts due to the sudden snowfall. Hundreds of ITBP jawans have been sent to the spot for rescue work. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) also reached the spot. Besides, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has left for the spot.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tribendra Singh Rawat said the Rishi Ganga project at Reni village in Chamoli could be damaged due to heavy rains and floods. The low-lying areas of Alaknanda are expected to be flooded. Residents along the river have been evacuated from the area. He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Assam had inquired about the situation in Uttarakhand.
