Hey friends,
This morning I was looking at my feed when suddenly I remember I was following a couple that were cycling their way from Spain to Portugal and sharing their experiences here in steemit. They do brought their pet, a beautiful and playful cat. I was closely following each of their post. Their story was being told in Spanish and it was getting there at the point which more and more people were getting involved, attracting new followers.
Today, after scrolling down to the comments and replies I've been doing almost a month a go to find their profile @michucletarutera blog I happen to see that they are inactive for more than 2 months. It is sad to see how some steemians with great potential may vanish away or get lost in the blocks of the chain to never be forgotten (pun totally intended, blockchain principle).
Now as I'm writing this, I am asking myself, was it my fault? Was it the community that did not support him? Has something really bad happened? How can I get to contact them to see if they are ding well? Maybe I'm just over reacting and they have been enjoying the most wonderful part of the journey. Is it for the low rewards? Is it for the money? Are we still around just for the money? Is that it? I cannot accept it, in fact I believe this personal journey that started long ago after quitting other social media and focuses on building my self up from the grounds, looking at different alternatives to become a better human being, to heal my wounds from the past, to look for the bright future to get involve with like minded folks that mostly were welcoming and supportive. Is that gone for real? Are the steemians getting tired to see people come and go? Was it part of the process? Like if it is not expected that everyone will fit here?
I can really feel how comments have decreased, interactions and networking seems to be failing and I can't stop thinking that we as a community have failed to welcome new users, guide them as they do their firsts steps and learn how to walk, to keep re-directing them when they start to get lost and bring them back to the communities and projects out there that are to help and give support to the new members or minnows as some still call them. Is it our problem to only transmit out inner desire to get rich quick with steem rather the long term and sustainable growth for out platform? Are newcomers getting upset as they cannot easily go up in the ladder and in fact it seems like a hiking a very steep trail instead of the often describe easy path to the beach.
There has been great attempts to expand and welcome new users, projects and initiatives that might even gave birth to dapps and games that are providing good content and interactions to the ecosystem, but I cannot be happy to see all the betting games that pop up like in every site, it is like the new bid-bot explosion that is currently happening,
How can we make it better for new steemians to get engage an ride the train to the top of the mountain, that might not be this year nor the next but a decade from now?
