Renewable energy has been enjoying a massive rise worldwide. However, that has been most evident in the UK. Coal has soon a quick demise in the UK, and this year renewable energy far out-performed it.

For more than 75% of 2017, wind energy produced more electricity than coal. Solar energy did the same for over 50% of the year. There were numerous other milestones that made 2017 a notable year for renewable energy.

For the first time in 135 years, the UK went an entire day without the use of coal-powered electricity. In June, more than 50% of all electricity generated came from renewable sources.

By 2025, all coal plants not using CCS will be shut down. This marks significant transition towards renewable energy that isn't set to stop anytime soon.
