SoI am looking for a term or phrase for avoiding becoming an expert on something to avoid spending lots of money. Let me explain:
So a few years ago I got really into learning about beer after getting introduced to some finer details in a guided beer tasting. I learned how it was made and about the many varieties. My favorite beers become Belgian Abbey beers and I soon didn't want to drink some of the cheaper beers out there. Admittedly there are some very good, affordable beers, but my preferences certainly meant that I'd have to spend a few more dollars to enjoy my beer. On the flip side, I often joke that I don't want to learn too much about wine so that I will be able to continue to enjoy cheaper wine. This seems to pop up most often for food items for me as for example I'm right on the border in my cheese expertise and cheese can get pretty expensive if one starts going crazy.
This whole thought process got started on a non-food related thought. I was walking around in a fairly new pair of jeans I purchased recently. Normally this brand is way more than I'd like to pay for a piece of clothing, but I got a really good deal. The only problem is they are really comfortable and have only gotten more so with each wash and I'm starting to worry I'll have to really up my jean game.
I know the expression, "ignorance is bliss" may apply here, but there has to be something more specific to this dilemma.
