VPN tunneling protocols

The performance of the VPN tunneling protocols is investigated using various performance metrics such as Throughput, Round Trip Time (RTT) and Jitter. Although the GRE has better performance against throughput and RTT used, the IPSec ensures more security features such as encryption, authentication, data integrity etc. Hence, Site-to Site VPN applications that require more security should use IPSec but GRE can be used for faster communication. In remote access VPN, the L2TP with IPSec provides more security and better performance than PPTP. Finally, a tunneling protocol preference for different application is proposed based on the acquired result
