Hi mrprofessor

how's things? It has been a while
lol to think you are one of the people still on hive who I remember from when I first started on steem 'the blockchain that none shall mention' 😆 I feel like an old man on here sometimes... been knocking about, on and off, for 7 years.

You know what, I love that in the UK there are various clubs for pretty much everything.

Yeah, that is true. I used to be in a scuba diving club as well, but diving in the UK made me realize I didn't want to die any time soon (diving over here is v challenging) and preferred to just dive the tropics when I can get away.

I've never tried woodturning, but I've been trying to save up for a mini lathe for my crazy projects

I can recommend it. The process is soooo satisfying, almost meditative, but with the added bonus that it engages the Drive System as well as the Soothing System. One thing I would suggest is to find someone to teach you the basics. Youtube has some fantastic resources for understanding wood turning (I'll link my fav channel for WT education below) but without a teacher you'll prob end up ruining a lot of wood, and potentially injuring yourself.

It isn't that dangerous an activity... as long as you know how to use the tools. Off the top of my head one of the worst things that could happen to a newbie (without a more experienced turner giving guidance) is to place the tool rest in the wrong place causing the lathe to catch the tool and pull your hands toward the chuck area where the machine's turning power comes from. In the extreme, it could result in either losing a finger, or maybe catching sleeves in the lathe and breaking bones or dislocating shoulders etc.

Be v careful if you attempt to learn on your own!

Lol, but hopefully that hasn't put you off. Wood tuning is a load of fun when you approach it safely and at a measured pace 👍

This fella on Youtube called @TurnAWoodBowl explains the foundations of wood turning better than anyone else I've seen.
