Hello dear friends of Project HOPE, I am happy to share with you an important topic for the success of the teams and organizations, adaptive leadership. Here I will explain its origin and what it consists of.
The 21st century has been distinguished by an accelerated pace of diverse and multifactorial changes and challenges, to which we must give timely responses to continue and evolve according to the dynamics of the environment and our objectives.
Since 2020 this situation has become more complex, with unprecedented challenges arising from the Covid 19 pandemic, which require leaders with characteristics and competencies in line with the convulsive and unpredictable environment in which we find ourselves, in which the solution to problems must be comprehensive, not only considering the use and technological progress but also the human factor

In this sense, Ronald Heifetz and Marty Linsky of Harvard University proposed Adaptive Leadership, with the purpose of facilitating people and/or organizations to adapt and evolve in variable and challenging environments, through gradual processes of significant individual and group changes.
This type of leadership is based on the Darwinian premise "it is not the strongest that survive but those who are best adapted to change", whose relevance goes beyond the realm of biology, and has become one of the most widely used exhortations to encourage commitment to change processes.
And what are the fundamentals of adaptive leadership, it is oriented to combine two important elements, the first to satisfy the desire of people to be recognized for the contributions they make to the achievement of the objectives in groups and organizations, the second to adapt and guide the individual and collective characteristics to the processes of change, so that weaknesses are transformed into strengths through learning, action / practice and improvement, constructively moderating the differences and creating synergies.

A priori it may seem ambitious, but it is possible because the adaptive leader has the disposition and characteristics to do so, among them, being accessible, attentive and available, close to people, establishing responsive communication channels, participating as a member in the activities, being empathetic, adapting to the group dynamics and trying to inspire people to offer the best, identifying and taking advantage of individual strengths, his activities are based on observation, reflection/analysis and timely action, having in mind among his goals to achieve greater commitment, bonding and permanence in the organizations.
To apply adaptive leadership, it is necessary to previously analyze the characteristics or profile of the leader who aspires to be one, since it is necessary to understand not only the definition and its benefits but also the implications and knowledge necessary to put it into practice, maintain objectivity and work on technical and adaptive problems in an adequate manner, the latter being the most complex to identify, requiring time, learning, putting into practice, decision making and improvement.
I invite you to reflect and share some examples of this type of leadership.
See you soon dear friends of ProjectHope
