I agree with you.
However, it does not all rely on people's ignorance and unwillingness to comment and consume good content. Go on other platforms and see for yourself how many people actually do comment on articles and interact with the authors. Medium is a good example. It doesn't happen all the time and with every post, but it does way more than here.
Obviously Medium has a higher amount of users, but there's also a big difference in the way the website works - you actually have a good recommendation / discovery / search system. I've tried multiple times to randomly search for content here on Hive and discover good authors, but sometimes it's just not worth it. Spending 2 hours on the "New" or "Hot" sections just to see women posting photos, people randomly taking pictures of boring trees or lakes, or just reposting images that you can find online, or writing random boring things about themselves that no one really cares about, is just not worth it, especially when your time is liminted.
I work for around 10 hours a day, and in my free time either I do something I enjoy, such as reading, watching some videos on YouTube or playing a game, or I work on my personal projects. There's no way I can be convinced to spend 2 of my free time scouring this badly designed platform (I only talk about the discovery / recommendation / search systems) in hopes of finding something good to read, and maybe be disappointed that I wasted those 2 free hours that I had, when I can simply go to another platform to find a good piece of content in minutes, or even seconds. I would much rather write something and maybe get a bit in return for it than to waste my time trying to find something good among all the pile of s*it that is being posted constantly on this platform.
And I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking this way. I'm sure a lot of people would love to spend time consuming good content, regardless of the platform. But when the good content is being buried by trash the second is being posted, and when there's no way to actually find that content again because even the search system is broken on the website, then there's no motivation for someone with limited time to even try.
To give you an example of how bad the system here is, I often had to search for my own old articles on Google if I wanted to check something out, because using the search system on Hive didn't show me any of my own articles, even when the title was quite accurate to the article I was looking for.
These are problems that are known already for a very long time and no one does anything to actually solve them. Those responsible for the website might be working on some important projects but I, and I'm sure a lot of other people on the platform, don't care about them when basic things such as the search system doesn't work, or a feature such as a good recommending / discovery system does not even exist.
So, I understand your frustration, but you have to view this from the point of view of people who have very limited time at their disposal and have to be careful with how they spend it. No one wants to waste their time hoping to fine something decent here after 2 hours of searching when they can go on YouTube or Medium and find good content within minutes.
