Maybe it’s because it’s a much calmer day compared to the rest, and it’s a day that invites you to slow down and enjoy the simple things. That’s why one of the things I always love to do is have an afternoon snack with my family around the table, with hot coffee and a freshly baked homemade cake. The kitchen becomes a very special place, starting with the aroma of coffee and the scent of the freshly baked cake, and along with that come conversations, laughter, and the sense of peace that every member of my family brings. This time it was a very moist, fluffy chocolate cake—the kind where one bite makes you want to keep eating all afternoon. Rather, it’s about those moments that unfold, where everything starts with an idea and ends up becoming something incredible. Here, my mom starts by making the coffee and pouring it into each cup, while my sister bakes the cake, and before we know it, we’re all pitching in to make sure our afternoon snack turns out perfectly. This is one of my favorite combinations—a cup of coffee with a chocolate cake—since the intense flavor of the chocolate and the bitterness go together perfectly, and the best part is that everyone in the house loves it.
