Warning: This fix will cause vulnerabilities, proceed with caution
Recently, Mozilla completely borked their extensions on many of their stable branches of Firefox. This leaves a couple options:
- wait until they fix it and install the update
- do something yourself
Since I needed some of my extensions, I decided to do something myself.
This fix involves disabling security signatures and allows you to install any addons from anywhere, even malicious ones. If you do this, I wouldn't recommend installing anything until the new update, but this will allow your usual extensions to return to full functionality.
Step 1: Open your Firefox browser and go to the address about:config
Step 2: Use the search bar at the top and paste xpinstall.signatures.required
Step 3: Double click the only result to change the "true" into a "false"
You may have to restart Firefox, but now all your usual extensions will be restored. Once Mozilla fixes this, which should be very soon depending on your OS and build, you should follow this guide again but reverse the "false" back into a "true".
