Being human is so easy. But being humane, oh boy, you have to struggle— literally!
Society expects you to be humane to others while the reality is the opposite. Go help a man in need, a man who begs right at the corner of the street and you’ll see the true nature of so-called civilized society. Some will call you a fame-seeker while others will think you are a goner. And there is this group of people, they will film you and share it on social media only to get cheap publicity of their profile; barely anything else.
But that doesn’t mean you should stop being humane; you should ignore what’s happening around you. Nah, you shouldn’t. If you are truly a social being, the possibility is, you simply can’t ignore them. They will haunt you as a memory until you work for their wellbeing, or at least try in some other way.
From the inception of life in this universe, being human has always meant one thing— to be civilized, to judge everything rationally, to have a taste for sophistication, to have the mentality to govern and be governed.
But in this century, we see a lot of people around with surprising tastes, weird traits; mostly shaped by imitation. However, imitation is an art when you are matching it against the context you belong. It’s a form of educating oneself with the most sophisticated practice that is being observed in other social stations.
When you are following the path of others without being aware of how acceptable it is in the society and the cultural setting we are accosted with, it certainly creates a mess. The people who are of this type often see life through the window of gadgets we use on a daily basis. It’s the approval of those specific people they seek or crave to stay motivated. And believe it or not, their number is huge. This is what they call civilization, progress, and adaptability.
Well, how many of us call this “Civilized” honestly. What does the origin of civilization suggest?
Long long ago, when the term civilization or civilized came into light, the idea was centered on a few things. This was connected with the term humanity. And being humane and civilized back in that time meant being educated in liberal arts as well as being sympathetic to others irrespective of their social belongings. It’s a mixture of virtue and strictness. You have to be kind and rational to call yourself an ideal man back in that time.
We aren’t born human, we become human— this was the belief. And this sounds perfect to me. Even from the religious perspective, I don’t find any objection going with the belief. In fact, if we practice this in our life, we will enjoy what civilization truly offers.
It’s the bond between us that can give humanity a spark, a reason to sustain, a voice to speak. And we must learn, communicate, discuss, and be rational to join in the fellowship of humanity.
There is no western prejudice in following your rational heart, nor God will curse you for that. But what we are after these days? Why we are so disrespectful to others?
